For Rent: Coco 66

© Adam Kopysc

Looking to rent a bar that probably won't be able to serve liquor? Coco 66 is probably your best bet. The notorious bar has been closed since July, when the it was raided in a joint operation by the NYPD and State Liquor Authority for selling booze without a liquor license. Apparently they don't like it when you do that. The squad made quite the scene, dumping the booze Prohibition-style into the gutters—allegedly $20,000 worth—before cuffing owner David Kelleran.

Coco 66 has never been one to shy away from trouble. In October of 2010 the bar was slapped with a vacate order and shut down by the police after over-booking a Tamaryn/Frankie Rose & the Outs show. In that instance, Kelleran brought the place up to fire code and the bar re-opened. In this one it has not, which is a shame, because it's a great bar and fantastic venue. Their Vice parties were always fun; it's where Isabella Rossellini showed Green Porno, for christ's sake! That said, it's safe to assume a liquor license will be out of the question for quite some time, especially if Kelleran's family still owns the building. But let's never say never. Anyone interested in reviving a former nightlife pinnacle can contact the owner directly at 66bar4rent@gmail.com. Rent is $8,000/month.

A classy joint like CoCo66 can't manage to stay in business but a Grade A classified shit hole like Risque stays open with an all-you-can-drink alcohol buffet, to boot! Gotta love the magic that happens in Greenpoint! Say, when how is that Risque review coming along?

Wow, I always have thought that there was no way Coco66 could ever be considered "classy"... but WiggersInParis figured out a way: compare it to RisQue.
