Welcome to Here's Greenpoint!

We hope that this will become your go-to blog for everything Greenpoint-related, from food to history to business openings and closings, to exclusive scoops that you won't find anywhere else.

Like at our sister site, Here's Park Slope, we're out walking the neighborhood beat nearly every day, speaking to local business owners and keeping track of the goings-on in the area. Think of us as the person at the party who somehow knows everything that's happening.

Soon in this space you'll begin to notice exclusive coupons and offers for local businesses, as well as a few other surprises down the road. So follow us on Twitter and Facebook (links are to the left), and check in every day for local scoops as well as business profiles, interviews with bartenders, foodporn, and some history.

Looking forward to having you along for the ride!

Open for Business: Oak and Iron, 147 Franklin Street

The team behind Lady Jay's quietly opened Oak and Iron, their new watering hole at 147 Franklin Street, late Thursday evening. More Midwestern than big city, Oak and Iron seems to be the place to come kick up your boots and whittle away your quarters on the country-western jukebox while sipping whiskey cleans until closing time. True to form, the bar is made of oak and iron, and the walls are lined with varying images of a lost America, Miles Davis and various sideshow freaks among them. With twenty whiskeys, twelve beers on tap, and an array of proper cocktails, it's as good a place as any to drown your sorrows and pat your fellow man on the back while trying to stumble through the last few lines of "Downtown Train." That's Tom Waits, not Rod Stewart.

Thanks to Rob Eleazor for the tip.
